P3BK have been working hard on learning how to partition numbers.
The children partitioned their numbers according to the place value of a digit. For example, the number 52 can be partitioned into tens and ones and there will be 5 tens and 2 ones.
We worked this out by warming our brains up first by playing a partitioning game on Education City. Then we used Dienes to practically divide our numbers into tens and ones. We recorded our work on a page to ensure that we understood the learning intention.
We all learnt that breaking down big numbers into more manageable chunks helps us to be more confident in working with larger numbers.
