European Day of Languages 2024
Today we celebrated the diverse range of languages spoken in Dundela. First thing on this damp day we cheered ourselves up with some lovely singing with Mrs Bettes. We sang He’s got the whole world in his hands and what a tuneful lot we are!
P1 enjoyed a wriggle time called “A Brand New Day” which taught us how to say “Good Morning” in lots of different European Languages. Children who speak English As An Additional Language also taught their friends how to say hello in their mother tongue… these includedPolish, Portuguese and Ukrainian.
P2 went on an imaginary journey to Romania, Portugal and Poland, tasting yummy treats from these countries as well as learning the words for hello and goodbye. We had fun painting flags for these countries too! A big thank you to the parents who came in to talk to the boys and girls, sharing interesting facts and pictures about their country, as well as lovely traditional treats for break. We really enjoyed this and hope you will come back again!
P3 enjoyed a French theme today with the P3 staff embracing the day by dressing up in French themed clothes. We learned greetings and colours in French as well as using French words in class. As part of our maths, we counted trays of croissants before recording the totals using tally marks and obviously we then had to taste the croissants! Finally, we looked at impressionist pictures by the artist Claude Monet, before we created our own masterpieces of his famous painting of the Waterlilies, all whilst listening to relaxing French music!
What a busy, enjoyable day we had! We hope you enjoy our videos and pictures!
