Autumn Adventures with the Nursery Saplings
The Nursery Saplings ‘took a stroll through the deep dark wood’ and made homes for the Gruffalo, the mouse, the fox and the owl. We loved reading about the Gruffalo and made lots of wonderful creations and paintings of the characters. We even made Gruffalo feet cookies which tasted delicious!
We went on our first Forest School adventure and discussed how to stay safe and follow the Forest School rules. We played Sleepy Hedgehogs and the children loved trying to guess who was hiding under the blanket. We read an Autumn counting story in the outdoor classroom then gathered our own Autumn treasures. Some of the children even collected conkers and acorns when they were on Autumn walks with their families and brought them in for us all to share. We used these treasures to mark make with conkers and paint, to make leaf puppets and to play a game where we had to feed the squirrel acorns.
Nursery celebrated World Smile Day by brushing dinosaur’s teeth and by talking about all of the things that made us smile. We were also kindly given toothbrushes and toothpaste by the local dentist and the children were very excited to bring them home. We also sang a fabulous Makaton song called Give a Little Smile.
