Physical Development and Movement
At Dundela we acknowledge the importance of PE and work hard to keep children healthy in body and mind. This is essential for long term health, well-being and physical development.
Physical Development and Movement is one of the areas of the curriculum that we aim to promote through outdoor play, health and P.E based lessons. During these lessons, children learn how to look after their bodies and are encouraged to learn how to move in order to become more physically competent. Our lessons not only help pupils gain new skills, but they will also achieve a greater understanding of aspects such as team work, fair play and effective communication.
We aim to enable children to develop knowledge, understanding and fundamental movement skills in:
- Athletics (the basis of running, jumping and throwing)
- Dance (many activities can be linked to music and drama)
- Games (sending, receiving and travelling)
- Gymnastics (simple control and movement)
Throughout the school year children will experience a sense of fun, enjoyment and achievement though a variety of progressively challenging and innovative activities.
