Numeracy
Mathematics and Numeracy is an Area of Learning in the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
In Dundela we enable our children in the Foundation Stage to acquire early mathematical concepts through play-based learning and planned activities that involve sorting, matching, comparing, classifying, and making patterns and sequences. By Primary 3 (Key Stage 1), we aim to give pupils a wider understanding of how the world around them works and to prepare them for making decisions, solving problems and processing everyday information.
Our teachers enable Foundation Stage pupils to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in:

- Understanding Number
- Counting and Number Recognition
- Understanding Money
- Measures
- Shape and Space
- Sorting
- Patterns and Relationships.
Our Key Stage 1 curriculum enables pupils to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in:
- Processes in Mathematics
- Number
- Measures
- Shape and Space
- Handling Data.
Throughout their time at Dundela we aim to provide our children with early mathematical experiences which are enjoyable, practical and stimulating. We seek to nurture their natural curiosity, supply them with the necessary mathematical skills, and challenge their problem-solving abilities in a highly supportive learning environment.
